What to do..................
I decided that the bottom mount would be a good start to solve this issue. It also keeps the engine from rotating and is only about $24 or so. I got one from FCP and installed it the other day. It is a definite improvement over the original, I think I am almost there.
I bought rubber molding compound from Amazon that is relatively soft:
As soon as I can be without the car for a day I am going to use this to fill in the gaps on the Hutchinson mount. This stuff is 30 durometer hardness and urethane is more like 60-80. My hope is this will be a bit stiffer without vibrating the whole car.
Short version is if you need a new top mount, I think odds are very high you need a bottom one too. One one wears out all the force goes to the other one, which probably fails soon after.
