But if they finally get their autonomous driving working flawlessly I could be plastered while behind the wheel and there won't be any speeding or fun involved for sure. This doesn't sound like swedish minded Volvo-safety but China educating the rest of the world.

I'm pretty sure by noe that I Robot was not a science fiction movie but a documentary of how it's gonna be. I feel sorry for my poor kids who will have to live in this AI-controlled world...
You do realise this is only a logical step on the way towards banning human drivers altogether? That'll be a proper step towards higher road safety.

We will test ban in EU first, work the bugs out, then start in North America with Canadian drivers first.

On the other hand considering how the US ranks when it comes to road deaths even a very buggy system would be an improvement on your end ;-)
You're statistically more than twice as likely to die per kilometer you drive than we are in Sweden. So we're only looking out for you.

The driving skills and attentiveness are horrible over here - Im sure thats the reason behind that.

That and crack cocaine ...

On the other hand, driving in Sweden is much like driving in Switzerland: slow and steadily one foot in jail.
If I remember correctly you could get a lifetime sentence for going 70 k in a 30 zone in Swirzerland.

In Sweden you'd have to be prosecuted for reckless driving apart from speeding. But you'd be if you drove that fast through a 30 kph zone outside a school for example.

Speeding somewhat is something of a national pasttime though .. long distances and not a lot of people.

Yeah, you just have to know the speedtraps. I enjoy speeding in Sweden though. Beautiful country! Wish I could bring my R to Sweden next year, but my eife and kids want to take the VW Bus instead... What a shame.

The cameras are on the maps. It's where the police are standing you'd have to keep an eye out for. Mostly by schools and the like though and people who speed there deserve what they get and then some.

Vehicles will be towed to the nearest Volvo dealer for repair.
I have a 21 year old car that Volvo doesn't even sell many parts for any more. What could possibly go wrong?
I couldn't agree more. I have a 1998 S70 T5M and S90 and a '07 S60. It would really mean something to me if Volvo was the first motor company to say they were going to parts-and-service support their cars for 30 years. Today's cars are no longer rust buckets at 15 years. A 20 year parts support used to be considered way long enough. It is minuscule now. We need parts support for our beloved older cars. Come on Volvo, show the world you really stand behind your cars going the distance...
