Oil change day. Literally could not ask for better weather. 77F and partly cloudy in Texas.

Today, I took off the power steering pump and the grille from the '99 XC while waiting for the tow truck to pick it up (in order to spare the wrath of my better half). Previously, I managed to pull practically the whole interior, tailgate, bumpers, steering wheel, instrument cluster and side trim.

The car wouldn't roll down the driveway (not surprising with the rotors nicely rusted), but my brother suggested smacking the rotors with a sledgehammer, which did the trick. Sitting on a wooden box for a seat, I steered it down the driveway and part of the way down the street, right on to the back of a flatbed. That's as much as I got to drive the car that taught me a bunch about panels and interior components.

#sadtrombone

I shouldhave wouldave couldhave dragged a Uhaul down for the engine pick.

:-(

The wrath of SWMBO is not to be endured often, however.

On an upside note - tried something new commuting NY to BOS

Usually allocate 3:30 hours to get to MIT via I90

Took 2:15 to get to Worcester, parked at train station, 15 minute connect to Train, 55 minutes to SOUTH, 15 on T to MIT.

Total elapsed: 3:45

Save about $15 on parking/train vs Urban parking in BOS

But - get two hours of email catch up time on train, and absolutely no traffic during rush hour hell.

Hmmmmmm. Have you guys in Europe heard of these weird metal things on rails instread of cars.

We have a few of those of different flavours, yes. But they're not always exactly competitive or timely unfortunately.

Interestingly you guys over there haul a lot more cargo on rail than we do. Crossing borders with trains is a PITA plus shorter distances make it cheaper to drive a lorry straight to the destination rather than move the stuff from lorry to train and back. Handling costs are surprisingly high.

I drove my V70R another 40ish miles with no trouble so far. I've racked up about 130-150 miles (don't know exactly since I reset the trip computer during some testing) and the tach hasn't dropped to 0 and no other strange electrical issues have reappeared. The only thing I did while I had it torn down was replace the fuse for the right parking light which had blown out... this makes no sense!

It's still boosting low, but I was able to get it to 14 PSI earlier during a second gear pull. Hit 70 pretty quick, but it's still not fast enough! I need to find a good deal on a RIP kit so I don't have to worry about old, leaking intercooler hoses.

Replaced driver side cv axle on my '94 850 NA Auto because original had torn outer boot, needed car
for tomorrow. Picked up from auto zone, a duralast reman. for $26.95 if I brought the core back (which I'm not, because it's OE), it would cost $21.95. What the hey ! It'll work until I reboot the original. Maybe I'll give them back reman. as core when I'm done. Counter guy told me Duralast is not doing remans. for autozone anymore. Passenger side same price !!

New brake fluid through Evita the 1999 S70, and a simple parking brake adjust on the T5 turned into new parking brake shoes. Had to Dremel off the ridge on the rotor/drum to get the right side on.

Shows were Textar - I think they were only about 35-40k on them, but they were from FCP

:D
