Harsh winters down there in Jacksonville. Sometimes , June puts a sweater in the car in case she gets delayed.

5 minutes?!!! I'm sure I could pass a Mercedes faster than that LOL. Unless I'm driving the C70 2.5T as it's surprisingly slow and the transmission likely would loose its cool!

Seriously 10W30 is the heaviest grade I would use. Since I switched to Redline 100% Synthetic oil I use 5W30 without issue year round. I still run the Hell out of my T6 even at 185K there is no end in sight for my engine. It runs flawlessly with tons of power and no oil consumption. June

Both grades you list have the same grade at running temperature. They're only different when cold. So 5w40 is actually heavier when running but the same when cold as your 5w30. The winter grade is only really relevant in actual winter when it's freezing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the 10W30 over 5W30 above 86° recommendation has more to do with the degradation leading up to 7,500 miles oci rather than fresh from the bottle protection. June

Well, as this is a first DIY change for me.
I ended up at IPD store and they recommended the "Total Quartz Future 7000 XT semi-synthetic 10w30 engine oil"
Them mentioning the 5w-30 full synthetic wouldn't make much difference and that im good with the 10w30 semi blend....
so i got the kit and changing this weekend.

I bought my V70 used, with 183,500 miles, in December 2015. Records showed that Valvoline semi-synthetic had only ever been used. The seller told me it used about 1 quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles. At the first oil change the week after I got the car, I used a can of Liqui-Moly Pro-Line Engine Flush, and then with the new oil I added Liqui-Moly Motor Oil Saver and Liqui-Moly Ceratec. I use Mobil 1 0w-40, which is all I ever used in my prior car from 2001-2015 (158,000 miles), a VW Golf TDi that I purchased new, and it never used any oil between changes every 5000 miles. During that first oil change with the additives, during 5000 miles, I added 1-1/2 quarts of oil. 40,000 miles later, I’m adding 1 quart during that 5000 mile interval, down significantly from the 2.5-3 quarts the prior owner was adding. The Liqui-Moly additives may have made a big difference, but I’m crediting the Mobil 1 0w-40 too.
Through September 30 2019, you can go online to mobiloil.com and click on promotions to get a rebate on Mobil 1 oil. Walmart has the 5-quart jugs currently priced at $22.88 plus tax, and the rebate per jug is $12 (limit 4). I purchased 4 at $97.92 including 7% tax, and less the $48 rebate, my cost was $49.92, which works out to $2.50 per quart - less than most conventional oils! At 6 quarts per oil change, I’ve got enough for 15,000 miles, plus a couple quarts to use to add when needed.

If you stop using the additive you'll hear that engine groan/moan very deeply (not happy) when pushed hard and oil consumption will go up. Earlier this year I purchased 3 cases at 6 quart each after giving up on Mobil 1 years ago. The 0-40W would provide a year round grade for NC and at Costco prices it was too enticing to pass up. Went back to Rotella T6 and the engines are quieter smoother and not complaining when pushed. The additive is what's keeping everything in check.

Always Synthetic. I use the Mobil 1 10/30 as it's ACEA B1 (or B3, don't recall) that my 2006 turbo requires.

I get it from Costco when it's on sale (usually $10 off) and couple it with the Mobil rebate (usually $12/case), so each case of 6 quarts is $14. Because my car is a turbo, I hesitate to change the oil less than ever 12K miles, and it doesn't use any unless I flog it and am on the turbo more than usual. I only have 165K miles on it.

Was $10 Off recently so around $29 a case. Was free shipping not too long ago also. Same price as Costco Warehouse without shipping price of course. Never seen or been at $14 a case.
