Definitely one of the best seats to sit in for all that time!

Finally wrapped up the evaporator job today... what a pain! Vacuumed and charged up the AC a couple hours ago and it's ice cold now! I'm SO glad that's done. Just in time for tomorrow's forecast of 97 degrees!

Your '96 should have the OBD2 diagnostics, correct?

The "850 OBDII" app allows you to test the high and low speed fan function (through the ECU). I just recently used it and it works well. That will help rule out ECU wiring or ECU issues.
I had no idea that was a feature, will try it out tomorrow.

I did see another thought on Volvo speed. That post suggested looking at the temp sensor wires and clean them in case its resistance is being artificially increased causing the ECU to think engine temps are lower than what they actually are.

It's worth it to check the sensor wiring. They can be finicky.

I don't remember where in the app the fan test was, but basically all it does it ping the fan relay from the ECU. It only activates the relay for a second each time you test it. That will at least rule out the ECU and it's wiring.

Yes, definitely give that app a download! I think it's only $1.99 on the Google Play store. I used it for fan diagnostics on my '98 and it worked very well.

It would be a good idea to look at the temp sensor wiring and connector as well, I had to repair the connector on my '98 because it was all broken apart. My S90 is the same, a previous owner fixed it at some point.

Nope, I made sure to only use regular R-134A. I filled with two cans of that and two small 3 oz cans of R134-A/PAG oil.

Someone else in previous life tried sealer. Good news is the orfice is the only thing that will plug up, so you should be good to go. That orfice does show why the sealer never makes it to the evaporator, where is it is needed, of course.

Yup, and I'm sure that's why mine was so plugged up. Someone tried to fix the evaporator with sealer, and it didn't quite do the job!

The orifice tube is a $3 part, if you're replacing anything in your AC system, change it! I guarantee just about everybody's looks similar to that at this point.

Weird picture... I actually drove the V70R to get parts for another one of my Volvos! It's usually the other way around!

Also got the S60 torn down to do the PCV tomorrow. I replaced the cams seals earlier, the front intake seal was blown out, causing the oil leak.

Beautiful color on the R. Nice to see it out finally!

I had a rough non Volvo day today. Realized my retired neighbor’s morning routine he not happened, went into the house and found her deceased in bed.

Makes a stuck bolt seem trivial.
