Steering Wheel Finish Rubbing Off

Post by Elikeck »

My Steering wheel for my S60 Inscription is rubbing off every time I drive it. Does anyone else have this issue? It is a 2017 with 25k miles on it.

Could this be self inflicted as in too much cleaning with harsh cleaners or too much Armour All or other greasy protectant? Should be still under warranty correct if not damaged by the aforementioned?

1 year warranty on interior is what the dealer told me. I used wet wipes no more than necessary though. Detailed it in 2018.

I found out too late that certain surface finishes in my '99 S70 were alcohol soluble. Excessive use of hand sanitizer wrinkled and eventually removed the finish on frequently used switches, buttons, and steering wheel. Keep all alcohol-containing products out of the car!

That goes for the drinking kind too!

It's funny how one forgets and each time you clean the steering wheel you think it's super dirty till you realize it's the material or dye. Store bought alcohol is harsh and the 91% stuff will melt the interior finishes. You may have to take a drink if you do a lot damage :? .

It is funny how my wife who uses hand sanitizer religiously has zero problems with her CX-5. What a terrible oversight that has been going on over 20 years. No thanks

I think my reply was poorly written. My reply was referring to my forgetfulness and drinking real alcohol to sooth myself after making the same forgetful mistake   .

As for the hand sanitizer I believe it contains hand softeners. Your wife is actually keeping the steering wheel supple due to this.
