Steps on how to install killswitch for 01 v70

Post by CIK7 »

Pretty straight forward question. How do i install a killswitch for my 01 v70? Please post pics if possible. Those technical wiring diagrams are confusing. If you have done it or have info, please help.

Via Rick on FB: wire a switch to the fuel pump.

Up to the cabin or dash. It can be as discrete or hack job as you want. Discrete meaning wiring under the carpet, up to a blank dash switch that you can buy to make it look factory.

You don't want a battery kill switch on any P80 or P2 Volvo

Each time the battery is disconnected, you start a new cycle of readiness monitors of the ECM as well as resetting fuel trim data

What abscate said! If you're wanting this for security purposes, you'll want the switch to interrupt a ground, not one that carries power. The latter is more likely to burn, pit, corrode and otherwise die.I've not done it on a modern car, though, so I can't offer specifics just the theory.

I rent an apt from govt housing/housing authority in Antlers OK on the outskirts. Normally these types in most citties have crime. Ive always left my car windows down during the summer. Ive never had an issue with someone trying to steal stuff from my car or our neighborhood, nor has there been an issue within the other 3 identical neighborhoods in my town. But there have been several attempted thefts/breakins, a couple of which were GTA, in the central part of town. I drive a base model 01 Volvo V70, which i understand is kinda basic, but its also top notch when compared to my previous low quality 09 Impala LT and most other vhehicles in Antlers. Despite this Volvo being a temporary fix until i get my true Volvo fix (dream car is a 95 850 wagon, turbo or t5) I treasure this car and want to keep it. Security is important.

I do not want to put it on the battery. My idea was either the ignition, or as the first reply to my post stated, the fuel pump.

I would like to use either use a rocker switch (as pictured) or a push button (as pictured). Id probably buy a factory volvo rocker switch to replace the blank on the lower part of the ECC (pictured). They are both 3 prong switches.

I don't think you understand how cars get stolen nowadays. No one starts the engine any more, they just grab the car with a truck and pull it away to get stripped.

Without a key, no one is defeating the immob on a 2001, its a good system. I can barely get mine started with a key.

But what about the gear shift? If a truck pulls my car the car would be stuck in park unless the thief gets in and finds the override to shift into neutral. BTW, where is the shifter override at on an 01 v70?
