I've been trying to solve my poor idle problem on my 240 for 2 weeks. At first I thought it was my pre-pump(in tank) because when removing fuse it did not effect condition, and 1 week before I heard it whining. After replacing I still have same condition. I checked to see if any of the feul injectors where fauly by removing connection at each one separately to see if it affected the idle. after removing each one separately and checking idle the same condition exists. Each one produced a change in idle so I',m assuming there are functioning properly, and there is not a leak in the manifold. I replaced the case (flame trap) filter as well.
I need some guidance on my next course of action. Any help wold be greatly appreciated.

it skips as though missing 1 cylinder, or starved for feul. but I checked and all firing.

ahh, so it's just running really rough... how does the distributor look? spark plugs? are the plug wires attached all the way? i know this gets a bit more in depth, but is your knock sensor working properly? umm, well i guess i should ask how the engine does when it's not idling. it had good power response and runs smoother when at speed?

I would check the idle motor?, but do not know its location. Never touched a knock sensor, need to know its location as well.
Condition when running? It skips, excess smoke(not the blues, it is black) and gas mileage is what down. And fare reduction in power.

hmm, sounds like it's running really really rich... maybe something wrong with the fuel pressure regulator? have a look through this site, see if you can find something that sounds like your problem... i found something that sounds a bit like your description
