I'm attempting to get to stage 0 on my new to me wagon. PCV/timing belt/w-pump/serp belt/coolant hoses/cap/rotor/wires/plugs/fuel filter/multiple vac lines/silicone turbo hoses (b/c OEM TB hose had a hole in it) all done this past few weeks. Also, all 5 injectors rebuilt with good readings from the rebuilder. upon assembly I cranked and cranked with no start. locked/unlocked doors 5 times w/fob, repl cam pos sensor, repl fuel pump relay, new fully charged battery. still no start.
compression is appx 122-125 on all 5 cylinders, spark is there on at least 2 plugs, fuel pressure is good b/c my cheapo HF gauge hooked up to the schrader valve on the rail was squirting fuel everywhere while reading 30-something. I'm officially at a loss. I had a P0102 code but that's b/c I forgot to plug in the TB plug, which is now plugged in, code cleared on my reader, and still crank no start.
Where do i go next? this is my 1st Volvo and I love it but also starting to hate it. it ran strong before i decided to be my own mechanic. also I came across a running parts car (1997 turbo wagon) for free!! and brought that home a couple days ago

spark, fuel, compression, timing ... I would check the marks on the timing belt again?
Next up might be "how strong is the spark?"
Make sure everything is plugged in, the TPS is a sneaky one. And the ECT.

TPS and ECT are both plugged in
If timing was that far off wouldnt my compression be off? Wouldnt it still run like a chugging tractor at least?
I will check the marks tho, just to be triple sure
How can i check strength of spark? Its pretty bright, but I did not replace the coil. 139k miles on the odo, unknown on the bits I havent replaced

And i mis typed earlier....
It cranks all day long, just doesnt fire and run, despite seemingly all the right stuff being there (spark, fuel, compression, presumably air)

It's not good diagnostics but you have a parts car so ... I would swap the crank sensor, they can also give a no-start. May as well swap the coil too. People often go by "nice bright blue spark" for strength of spark, I would have to look up how to test it more carefully. But very unlikely both of your coils are bad.
125 is pretty low for compression if it isn't just the gauge, you expect 150-180. Lawn mower syndrome also possible at 125.

Fuel pressure needs to be right. Get that gauge sealed otherwise your measurement is meaningless. The fuel is metered by time , assuming a correct fuel pressure , so if this is 20% off the car won’t run
A 3 second blast of ether willl probably make it go vroom and can help confirm a fuel delivery problem

Yes maybe my cheapo compression gauge is crap, ill go rent a good one from the parts store. At least all 5 readings were consistent, and it ran great a month ago. i did put a bit of oil in each cyl to rule out lawn mower syndromeerikv11 wrote: ↑14 Sep 2019, 12:05 It's not good diagnostics but you have a parts car so ...
