99 V70 blower not working at all

Post by Ocoinji » Thu Oct 03, 2019 7:59 am

Working on my son’s 99 V70. Blower is not working at any setting on the ECC. Checked blower, seems fine, spins freely and runs quiet when connected directly to 12V source. Replaced resistor pack, no change. Fuses look ok, but will check with a volt meter later. Pulled ECC to see if Switch might be bad but gave up on it after tearing it apart, doesn’t look serviceable at all. Is there a way to test the ECC to see if it’s working? Is there something else that would prevent 12V getting to the blower? I’m in FL with my son for the next few days and would really like to get this fixed before I leave to go back up north. FL without AC is no fun. Before it stopped working altogether, he said it sounded like it was running as if someone was holding the fan preventing it from rotating. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

Basically replace with junkyard unit is all you can do to the ECC controller. You could also rig your blower to work on high with a jumper wire to make it home

I've been getting good ones on eBay for $20-$50 each. Last about a year or two typically.

The motors can run fine when not in the car. When the car moves, a worn motor bearing can bind up and release depending on whether the car is accelerating or braking

There are 2 sensors in the system. One at the RHS? of the resistor pack between it and the motor.

Always check the temp sensor in the dash is clean and clear of fluff. They do fail and if they do they cannot sense and send a signal to the ECC. To access the sensor you have to pull the ECC unit and it is to the left of the where it sits, behind a small grill in the dash. Look it up as I am sure I wrote up hoe to remove and clean a while ago.

Neil.

As long as you choose not to replace them =)
