Hi Folks,
I'm trying to figure out a problem with my dads 1993 960 drivers window. it goes up & down, no problem BUT, when going down, as it reaches the very bottom, it makes a loud bang. Upon removing the door panel & investigating, it appeared it was the window regulator, and the teeth looked stripped. I put a couple pieces of 2x4's under it, so it wouldnt go down as far & that temporarily fixed it. Well it started happening again and after looking at it & reading a few threads on here it seems that the window is not 'sensing' when it reaches the bottom and is forcing the regulator, causing the teeth to jump. I cannot find any definitive answers on here, just that there is a 'current sense circuit' that is involved, a possible seperate relay, or relay in the motor. I dont have a manual, but know a fair bit about electronics & mechanics. I just need someone to point me in the right direction. Any help or advice would be appreciate.
Thanks!
JC
update: I located the relay for the windows on the left side of passenger leg area behind a panel in front of the console. The relay is ok (i opened it up )and affects all the windows operation so that is not the problem.

If you put drag on a motor or cause it to stop. The current goes up, the spike in current is the signal for the motor to cut off. If the teeth are worn and slipping, the current will not spike high enough to turn off the motor.johnieappel wrote: ↑20 Oct 2019, 18:56 it appeared it was the window regulator, and the teeth looked stripped.
The worn/stripped teeth are the cause of the problem. Not the results of the problem.

As noted above, window regulators are not too hard to replace. Just a bit of finding the right parts to remove in what order. Get a good one from a salvage yard or buy new one from Dorman Products. Dorman has them available but they do not sell from their website. You should be able to get a parts store to order a Dorman regulator for you.
You the case of P2 V70 window regulators, the Dorman Product was much more durable than original Volvo.
