Rain sensing wipers

Rain sensing wipers

I just picked up a 2008 XC90 3.2 AWD. Everything works great except the rain sensing wipers, If I push the button, the light comes on, they sweep once and then they (the light) go(es) off. No matter what. Any ideas?

Windshield been replaced on this car before you bought it? Check under the large dark cover that's behind the rear view mirror (towards front of car), see if there's a sensor under there and a connector is attached.

If no, you have an easy answer (no rain sensor, no rain sensing wipers). If yes (you do have a sensor and it's connected), then someone can help dig a little deeper.
