Hi again,
In my quest to solve some isssues I split the turbo from the exhaust turbine housing to take a closer look at a crack I found in that exhaust turbine housing. Before separation I already heard a bit of grinding noise when rotating the turbine from the intake side. I was assuming excessive shaft play was the cause and the turbine was grinding the housing.. after separating the turbo I found the backplate to be loose. Question: why is this possible in the first place lol and can it be fixed.
Turbo: back plate turbine loose..

I think I fixed it haha. It seems the two parts weren’t snug together. I tightened the clamp further and now it spins freely.. it felt unnatural to tighten that clamp so far tho. Probably the rusty surface of the pieces made it somewhat harder to get the pieces together tight enough.
