SRS code 127

Post by misha »

I thought that it's a good idea to open a new topic about this.

I just replaced the instrument cluster on my '97 850 with s,v70 cluster from '97(eu market) and with new cluster i don't have SRS light with key in pos.II with all other lights.
I thought...ok the bulb is burnt.Replaced it and nothing again.
I scan SRS module for codes and got SRS code 127 SRS warning light OC,or SC to ground.

To me...it looks like somebody bridged the bulb circuit in the cluster to hide problems with SRS system.
The cluster came from a Volvo junkyard.

My question is...can this SRS code disable SRS system?

This is from Vol-Fcr:

Not sure about that particular code. If the code normally illuminates the bulb, then I was told that it meant the system was disabled. Now I do not know if that actual code would illuminate or not, but as it would suggest the lamp istelf is bad, not sure if that would be a case to shut the system down.

You might need someone like jimmy to answer that one.

Are you sure it is not just an incompatibility between the 2 cars or a bad connection? May be worth re-looking at the wiring harness junction and check all the pins are connected to the correct circuit both sides of the junction.

It couldn't be incompatibility Neil.
Everything works...all gauges,all warning lamps,board computer...except SRS light.
It just doesn't appear on bulb check with all other lights.

With DTC for SRS warning light with this cluster ONLY,the only thing that could be is that somebody tried to mask SRS codes in order to sell the car without codes.

I'll open it to see if somebody played with that light circuit as soon as i have time.

I would just hate to loose the time investigating that problem if it doesn't affect SRS system functionality.

That is the only code which shows open or short circuit of warning light to ground.

I put back the original cluster until i figure out how to solve the issue with SRS code for warning light i'm getting with s,v70 cluster.

I'm not risking to drive the car with possible disabled SRS system.

SRS-127

Possible source
Open-circuit or short-circuit to ground in the cable or connectors between the combination instrument and the sensor module.

Fault symptoms
In case of an open-circuit the SRS warning lamp lights.
In case of short-circuit to ground the SRS warning lamp does not light.

That's what Vol-Fcr also said.
I need to know will this code affect SRS system functionality.
In other words....is SRS disabled with this code stored?

This has been debated here and on swedespeed and, no one knows

Fir liability reasons, the Volvo factory will just tell you if the light is lit, service the SRS and assume it isn’t working.

The guys who say it will/ won’t work have no evidence to support their position ,it’s just internet scat

I called all specialized shops who works on cars diagnostics....and they also can't say for sure is SRS disabled or working.

So....i'll leave the old cluster in the car for safety reasons untill i figure out why the SRS warning light is not coming on with 70 series cluster.
Abscate...you have a pm.

The question is Moot.
If the SRS is working and you don't fix the light. Then the SRS quits working you would not know your life is in danger.

The only rational course of action is: Shut up and fix the wiring harness.

I just found out that pinout for SRS warning lamp on s,v70 cluster is different than on 850.

That's the ONLY difference between clusters from 70 series cars(excluding '99+) and 850.

Other than that...it is just plug & play.

I'll report back...i hope, with solved problem and 70series car cluster installed.
