2002 V70 Rear Relay/Shunt Removal?

Guys;
Mr. Parker was kind enough to post a nice snapshot of the rear left side of the cars relay bay if you will. My most recent problem is that I can't access the right side of the relay box due to the inside body liner or trim. I tried prying or pulling the inner trim to no avail. Do I need to unscrew the whole relay box to get complete access? (See attachment)

I think this is the answer. Remove bolt, unhook, then pull the whole unit out.

I'm tempted to say this is nearly identical to the CEM mounting - bolt is for holding the main connector in, and there should be a metal flap on the right behind the carpeted trim that would release the whole module and allow it to slide up and out. This is an educated guess, but still a guess.

I’ve had mine out and you have to release some electrical wiring to get slack if I recall

Battery needs to be disconnected first of course, always.

I never thought of disconnecting the battery. Only replacing a plug 'n' play relay but I will obey.

If you are just snapping it in/ out, no problem. Removing any component, disconnect negative. The red wires are probably always hot, so putting down the REM onto a metal surface could get interesting

Can someone help me with acronym/abbreviations here? "CEM" and "REM".
I want to assume they stand for that relay panel.

REM is the Rear Electronic Module, located in the left hand side of trunk
CEM is the Central Electronic Module, located in the passenger compartment under the dash.

Reading the thread, I wonder why you would want to remove the REM, not the trim panel which prevents access. I don't recall the exact steps, but I think it's mostly folding the seats, removing the floor panels and one screw on the side panel. Not difficult and not much work.

DrDan, all I wanted to do was replace a single, potentially worn out relay. The one I was told that operates the left rear fog lamp properly is on the right hand side of the REM and it is blocked by the trim panel. Seems like a stupid location for it since I can't get full access upon opening the access door.
