Correct thermostat temperature?

As an FYI, I found a link at http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/199 ... 70_133.htm

that says the 87 degree thermostats are for turbo cars and the 90 degree ones are for NA cars.
The Haynes manual for 1996 to 1999 cars mentions Type l cars are 87 degrees and Type ll are 90 degrees.
I couldn't find any mention of 92 degree thermostats excpet on various parts sites.

Sorry to drag this up again, but my coolant system is over pressurising on occasion so I suspect my thermostat needs replacing. I have an MY96 850 T5, but I am struggling to ascertain if I need the 87'C or 90'C variant. The general consensus in this thread suggests 87'C, but other forums with the same question seem to point at 90'C (though there seems to be no real justification for that recommendation). My manual states 87'C, but the local dealer pointed me at 90'C. I'm leaning towards 87'C, as per the manual and this thread, but they are rather harder to find.

I also understand the recommended brands are either Volvo or Wahler - are there any others to this, and does anyone have part numbers for the 87'C variants? The only P/M I can find for Wahler is 4272.90D, which obviously is the 90'C variant.

Don't worry too much over a 3C/5.4F difference. If the engine gets hot both of these will be fully open by about 96-97. there is a difference in the opening at 92-93 but both would be fully open a little above that temp. Higher thermostat temps are far more about those days when it is cold and the oil temp will be higher and shed condensation and fuel that gets there from cold starts with those extra few degrees.
