1989 740 Turbo stalling, not starting at all need advise
I bought this 1989 740 Turbo Innercooler two months ago. It drove home 20 miles fine. Filled the tank up with gas. It started stalling while I was driving, I put it into nutural and started it back up, this happened a few times. Then ran it down pretty low, not to the point of running out of gas Now it just wont start at all. It has gas. The battery is new. Checked battery cable connections, they are good. The engine turns over and trys to start, but does not. Could th is be a fuel system problem? I have not brought it to a shop yet, I am a single mother on a limited budget and really need this car to run. I bought the Chilton repair manuel for the car. Can you please give me any advise, information, ideas? Any help , tips will be appreciated. Thank you, Marcey

I have a similar symptom on my 1988 740T 3 years after I got it new. I was 90 miles south of Rochester on the highway waiting for the tow truck. While I was waiting for the tow truck, I smell something burning. I follow the smell and saw signs of overheating on the white plastic (now brown because of the heat) around the bottom of a relay. It was the fuel relay. The wire going into the connection was close to broken at the connector. I rewired it myself and get the car started. I quickly called and cancelled the tow truck. A 90 mile towing or get it serviced by someone along the highway coulds have costed me a fortune.
Check that and good luck.
