Wierd noise when applying brakes?

Hello folks,

I have an 1996 850 GLT and periodically when I apply the brakes the foot pedal seems to pulsate slightly and makes a sound which sounds like springs popping? I know it sounds strange but that's exactly what it sounds like. It may not happen for days then again?

If anyone can give some advice as to what this mught be it would be greatly appreciated.

Mebbe intermittent ABS malfunction? Find a wet road, trigger the ABS, same sound and feel?
