Is this a B2524T motor?

I've got one that's supposedly a '99 motor. (They used them for 97-99) going into my '78 240.

How do you plan to mount a white block in the 240? Rear or front drive? Transmission?

I won't hijack his thread with details, but it's not too terribly difficult to mount a 5-cyl whiteblock in RWD config.

Yes, B5254T. This is the original '98 motor, if yours is a '99 should be a B5244T with single VVT.

That'll be awesome in a 240, my cousin really wants to do that with his. Really not too hard, just use an adapter plate and a Ford T5 or CD009 trans and a 960 subframe. Then get a shortened white block 6 cylinder sump. Then a complete harness for M4.4 or run Megasquirt.

The tap arrived yesterday for the barbs for the NA intake manifold. Really easy to modify it for the turbo... all you need to do is add two barbs. You may only need to add one depending on the year, but for this '98 it requires three total (excluding the brake booster)... one for the purge valve, one for the CBV, and one for the fuel line. The NA '98 manifold only has one.

Simple process... I used an automatic center punch to start, then used a 13/64" drill bit for pilot holes. Then moved up to an 11/32". Technically for an M10x1.0 tap, you're supposed to use a 9.1mm bit. 8.9mm or 11/32" are acceptable for M10x1.25", and the 11/32" worked perfectly for the 1.0 being that it was just 0.2mm smaller.
Be sure to use cutting oil, and clean the intake manifold thoroughly before installing! This will all go back together after I replace the leaking thermostat housing gasket, which of course is not available locally. That's on the way from eEuro now.

Fresh threads ready for the barbs! Just like the turbo intake manifold!

The other option is to port/gasket match the throttle body on the turbo intake manifold (like I mentioned before), but this is easier. I don't have any good carbide bits for my die grinders, so it was going to take WAY too long to get through it.

It's got the updated oil cooler, COP, and ExVVT.

B5244T is a later P80 motor (00-02)

I think we were short a barb on the swap in the wife's GLT, and I wound up just adding a "T" to the vacuum line. Had I realized it beforehand, I probably would've done the same as you and drilled/tapped.

Just catching up, reading about your RTV finding. When I bought my 98 GLT as a rescue project, the cam cover was RTV'ed and puking oil all over the place. I cleaned it up good and 60,000 miles later all seems to be well.

That's right, the '99 motors were still incorrectly designated as 2.5s... I don't know why Volvo did that. Weird that they never updated the designation for the RN version, like how the B5234T was replaced by the B5234T3.

No more updated after adding the barbs, just waiting on parts now! I went ahead and changed the oil trap in my 940 and the voltage regulator on my V70R. Hopefully that'll take care of the dimming lights every time there's the slightest electrical load.

It makes for a big mess, that's for sure. Anaerobic sealant is the only way to go!

Both engines are the exact same displacement, 2,435 cc.
Rounded up for the US market where oversized sells.
Rounded down for the European market to reduce taxes.

Anaerobic means it will not phase change from liquid to solid in the presence of Oxygen and/or the absence of Metal ions. In other words it must be in contact metal and isolated from air before it will cure.
