Bluetooth Code Reader Reccomendations

Guys, I need to do some diagnostics on the ABS system on the S70 before I make the call the module is bad. Need to re set codes and would also be neat to read all of the sensors for temp etc real time on my phone.

A friend had an older Caddy with the electronic dash bad so he used that as a speedo/odometer and gauge reader. I would like to be able to use it in my truck mostly for reading temp sensors while towing but I would also need it to read and clear codes in both vehicles (98 S 70 and 2008 Ram 1500).

If phone is Android based...

I'd recommend Scantool.net OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth tool (that works on Android, iOS, and Windows). Cost is $60-$100.

For 98 S70 T5, use OBDLink MX+ tool with xiaotec "850 OBD-II" Android app (available for $2 on Google Play) to diagnose ABS, as well as ECUs handled by Vol-FCR, as well as typical OBDII emission diagnostics codes (eg, P0172, P0442, etc). You can also use the OBDLink Android app for the OBDII emission diagnostics.

For 2008 Ram 1500, I presume the OBDLink Android app (which you have full access to after buying the OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth tool) will read/clear 2008 Ram 1500 codes, but you'll need to research that just to make sure. I'd suggest asking around in Scantool.net forums and also researching if OBDLink Android app handles any vendor-specific diagnostics (for free) for the 2008 Ram 1500.

If phone is iOS based...

I recommend much the same.

The author of the OBDLink Android app also makes a similar app for iOS (though it might have a different app name than OBDLink). That app should work for both the 98 S70 T5 and the 2008 Ram 1500 as far as normal OBDII emission diagnostics goes.

However, I don't think the xiaotec "850 OBD-II" app is available yet for iOS.

So -- until such time that "850 OBD-II" app becomes available for iOS -- the 98 S70 T5 ABS diagnostics would need to be done manually/interactively with an iOS-based ELM327 terminal emulator talking to the OBDLink MX+ (or other Bluetool tool). You would then get those results interpreted via the KWPD3B0 interpreter page.

Since the xiaotec "850 OBD-II" Android app's interpretations are now somewhat more accurate than kwpd3b0_interpreter.html interpretations, for ABS codes via Bluetooth ELM327-compatible tools it would probably be simpler to somehow get access to an Android phone or tablet, since the "850 OBD-II" Android app performs the ABS code interpretations automatically (as well as can be more accurate).
