You are attempting to put words in my mouth. I never saying a Catalytic Converter cannot be clogged. If I did, I certainly would not of instructed him on how to determine if it is a clogged Catalytic Converter.

Clogging is not a normal function of a Catalytic Converter. Clogging comes from somebody committing an act of omission or commission.

You can keep trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. Doing so will only reflect on you. The proof to debunk you are saying about me is right here in plain sight.

It wasn't you that said that they never clog up but it seemed you defended someone that did say that. As far as debunking my words go ahead. I was the first to answer this guys problem and was correct. Others that posted they don't clog up are wrong. So what are you trying to debunk? If the original poster took their advice his car would still be running like shit.

I said that i had never seen clogged cat on these cars.
And i didn't.
Mine is still original and engine burns 1l of oil around 2-3k km,due to old valve stem seals.

When i said that it can't be clogged i meant that Volvo cat can't be clogged by separating of internal parts and blocking the exhaust flow...like ceramic ones.

If it gets clogged with oil when engine burns a lot of oil,you can clean it with special solvents and continue to use it.
After cleaning It will work just like a brand new one.

BUT if you don't fix the engine or turbo and continue to burn a lot of oil...10 new cats will not help.

Also...30min drive in high rpm once a month will keep the cat in good shape for a looong time.

It sounds like the '97 V70 has a 2.3L with a High Pressure turbo (HPT) and the '94 850 has a 2.5 with a Low Pressure Turbo (LPT).

A LPT spins up quicker in the lower RPM range where torque is more prevalent the power. That is why a LPT produces more low end bottom end torque then a HPT. LPT is better for city driving and fuel economy.

A HPT spins up slower but when it does it produces more boost in the higher RPM range where power is more prevalent then torque. A HPT is slow to turn on but when it does it does so with a vengeance.

Keep it tuned up and no procrastination the next time your wife tells you it is not running right. I suspect the engine not running right is what clogged up the Catalytic converter.

Clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump could also be the cause.
Did you checked fuel pressure at fuel rail?
Check engine light on?
I have replaced the fuel pump relay; no change. I unplugged the MAF and engine revved and drove normally. Engine light came on, of course. I replaced the MAF, plugged in and engine bogged down again; unplugged and engine revved fine. With these results in mind, could there still be a problem with the O2 sensor(s) or the catalytic converter? Thank you.

What brand of Maf did you installed?
If it isn't oem Bosch 0 280 217 107 this is what you could expect.
Normal behavior of the engine when maf is unplugged is pointing you that Maf is bad(or it's connector,which is prone to failure)and good news are that the cat is NOT plugged.

Also note that....when you replace Maf,o2,ect...etc,you need to disconnect negative battery cable for around 15-30 min in order to reset fuel trims.
