1999 S80 rear shock How-to question and a MC brake concern

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 rear shock How-to question and a MC brake concern

Post by rwaltco »

Have a newly acquired S80 with virtually every problem know to these cars having been repaired. I have a file with 9K worth of work! ECM module recall just done today. Getting ready to install new rear shocks. Anything special about installing rear shocks on these? Where is the top shock mount bolt located?

Shortly after leaving dealership, the brake pedal started to sink while stopped. Went back to dealer and questioned if vacuum hose or something could have been affected. Nope. The car had the brake booster replaced and brake pedal position sensor replaced two yrs ago.

The brake warning light has flashed intermittently only going around corners so I put a small amount of fluid in it a week ago. Has new brakes and everything was flushed and changed about when booster replaced. Do I have a MC issue here. No lights on at all, no pulling or fluid on inside wheels.

Rear shock replacement is quite easy. The top mount bolt is located in the trunk. The flexible panels towards the back of the trunk on both sides have to be removed to expose them. I think they have a special tool to keep the shaft from turning while you turn the bolt, but I found it could be done easily without the special tool. Good luck with that job!

I can't be much help with the brake warning issue. You've done what I would do.

Thanks Steve..by the time your reply got to me I'd already installed the shocks and took care of the warning light. Shocks took about 90 minutes and I did have the right tools.
