Electronic Climate Control Reset Procedures
Basically I need to know how to do a proper ECC reset on my 1998 V70 GLT. I haven't been able to find exactly what I need to do. I don't have a key FOB that works. So if the procedure needs it, hopefully there is another option. Currently I am only getting airflow from the vents. The variable fan speeds and heating controls work. Any adjustment to make the heater/vent/defrost selector go to the floor or defrost makes no change, air still only comes out of the vents. The lights for the AC will come on like they should, but the heater/vent/defrost airflow does not change. The strange thing is I am not getting any error codes from the ECC when I turn the selector to defrost only. Earlier in the weekend the heater/vent/defrost airflow wouldn't change when moving the dial. I had limited flow on defrost and floor, but the vents still definitely had more airflow. I disconnected negative, then positive, connected them together for 15 min, hooked back up and this is what gave me the vent only airflow. I read someone said the key should be in position II when reconnecting the battery, I tried that and I still only have vents. Winter with no defrost is not an option I want to live with. Help!

I have an 850, and have not worked on the V70's, so I don't know but from reading the post linked below it looks like you need to have a Volvo tester to read the ECC codes and initiate a reset on the ECC in the V70.

It might be helpful to remove the damper motor for the heater/vent/defrost control flap and see if it's working correctly.

At least on my '97 855, you have to remove the panel underneath the dash to get access to some of them, such as the recirculation damper and the vent direction controls (face or footwell). On the V70, I don't know which damper motor controls the heater/vent/defrost function.

This image is from the Haynes 850 manual, showing the locations of the damper motors. I checked my copy of the Haynes V70 manual and found that there is no similar image. Hopefully this one will help you home in on the location of the damper that may be giving you trouble.

Thanks, it will be warmer this week (didn’t want to break anything) and I’ve watched a video on the removal. If I test with the dash off, I’ll probably get a SRS light. Is there enough wire that I can keep it plugged in? Otherwise all I will be able to do is make sure the flap move. Or use a 9v battery to test the motor?
