Tire store can tell. They have the tool that activates it and reads pressure or no readout means it is bad. If your XC90 has not had the others replaced you might consider doing all. They all are 10 years old with original batteries and they will drop one at a time until you all 4 are done.

One link for reference. link- https://forums.swedespeed.com/showthrea ... t-question , TMPS functional description is in the thread

As noted earlier, if you want to know which TPMS sensor is bad, check with a TPMS wheel tool. For 2010 and beyond, make sure of the frequency, it's 315Mhz for US/CA and 433Mhz for INT but at some point Volvo goes with 433Mhz across the board. I still have the VDO SE10003 sensors installed on my '08, the set of replacement Schrader 20156 sensors that I bought got sold to another Volvo owner and are on his vehicle. Once a sensor shows as bad the rest will fail, just a matter of time.

The batteries get weaker when cold so initially they will quit on coldest days and then get to where it is not a very cold morning and they quit. The benefit of a whole set is that there are sets sold where the cost is about 4 for the price of three. I know of no parts stores with the tool as it is not much of a do it yourself deal. Tire stores took the ball on this one.

Full set of Schrader brand from RockAuto is $100 + shipping. Amazon has a full set of ITM for $113. Both of those are good brands. I don't know what a tire store charges to push the one sidewall off bead and install sensor and then program the 4.
