whats to be gained from R manifold on s70 T5?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

whats to be gained from R manifold on s70 T5?

Post by gentlejax »

I havnt seen anything other than better response. is there any idea of actual power?

I have to replace the PCV assembly on my 99 s70 T5 and I beleive that requires removing the manifold. Perfect time to upgrade to a R manifold I would think. just want to know its worth the $150+ for it as money already tight.

will it improve gas mileage ? of course I know it wont help if I keep my foot in the gas but under normal conditions ?

The inlet manifold on a 99 car should be for an electronic throttle motor which is bolted to the underside of the inlet manifold, swapping this will only give you a headache as the earlier inlet manifold won't accept the ETM it will offfer little if any improvement - Mike

I'm referring to the s60R manifolds that people have used. Not an earlier R

Was under the impression these will swap.

THEY swap the exhaust manifold not the intake manifold.

There are groups of people on forums that use NA intake manifolds on early ('98 & prior) turbo cars however as Mike stated is not a '99 plus thing due to totally differing locations of the electronic throttle.

I never said I was swapping intake manifold, I just said I was going to be removing it which meant might as well do what I could while it was broken down. I know the difference between intake and exhaust..

So why would it be a perfect time to change to an R exhaust manifold during a PCV change?

Different side of the engine and another 5 hours of hard slog 8-)

This thread was somewhat, absolutely anticlimactic.

The non aspirated intake manifolds from years 1995 to 1998 had the same intake port to the head design as the turbo, but the throttle body size was 3" as opposed to 2-1/2" on the turbo manifold.
These are the characters in question. Throttle body still attached to turbo manifold.

Also, while utilizing the 3" n/a throttle body, it will be necessary to change the throttle plate to an unobstructed type as used in a 960 n/a throttle body.
That would take care of the intake .

So the original title of the thread must refer to the R exhaust manifold. I believe the new fad is the'04 year, but it is close to the original R design.

The benefits of free flowing exhaust are heat reduction, boost response, and plain and simple functionality of an internal combustion engine by design. Horsepower?
The direct path of exhaust ports to drive the turbo is much more efficient than the LPT or even older T-5 type.

Effective, but designed for a flat torque curve in mid RPM.

All these pieces can be found fairly inexpensively. I have already done a couple as seen here in my creative depictions.
No, really it is easy, and makes a noticeable difference.

Can be found in junkyards, or online.
Have fun with it, or not.

If sold car, why ask why? why reply?
Still have that R manifold?

Will an R exhaust manifold bolt up to a got with no problems?
