Hello,
Yet another issue with my S70...
When my car starts to near the 2000 rpm mark while driving, my turbo begins to make a nice loud whining noise and just gets louder and louder as the rpm increase. It almost sounds like a siren. It does this ever time whether I'm slowly accelerating or accelerating a little quicker. Could something be loose or is my turbo dead/dying??
Thanks,
Mike

Good point and let's hope that it. Worst case scenario is that the turbo shaft has gotten some play in it and the turbine is hitting the side of the inner walls. Let's hope that's not it or you'll be in for a new turbo, or at least a rebuild. Btw, these turbo's are very sturdy and we don't hear of them going bad very often.

Thanks for the responses guys.
As far as oil levels go. I put in a good 5 quarts last week or so. I'm guessing a lot of it has been burned up... Things have gotten a lot worse with this car. It's been burning a lot of oil constantly. I'll be stopped at a red light and I'll see a light blue cloud of smoke go by.. I can smell it when I'm stopped too. And then when I'm driving, any quick acceleration will create a big cloud of blue smoke or whenever I hit around 2000rpm.. I'm thinking that's due to the rings going bad. And from what I understand can only be fixed with an engine rebuild. And my check engine light just came on. It's the O2 sensor... I think I've had enough of this car... I still owe a good deal to my dad for it, and I don't have the money to keep up.. Anyone want to buy it?

Sounds like it could be bad. Do yourself a favour though and do a thorough compression check before deciding the rings are shot. If compression develops slowly, you can redo the test after adding a teaspoon of oil to the cylinder. If pressure cranks up quickly with oil, it indicates worn rings. Otherwise, maybe its the turbo seals. And yes, burning oil will cook the O2 sensor, so don't replace them until the other is fixed, or until you've got no choice.

Well, looks like I'm in luck! My friend just graduated NASCAR Technical Institute, and he knows how to do a compression test and has the tools to do it. And he'll be a big help in figuring out what's wrong with my car. We're shooting for this Friday to try and check things out. I've been avoiding driving it as much as i can. It sucks..knucklebuster wrote:Sounds like it could be bad. Do yourself a favour though and do a thorough compression check before deciding the rings are shot. I would wager the turbo seals. Your compression seems "okay" I will be ordering seals this week for my T5 turbo. Anyone knows how hard it would be to remove the turbo on a 98 T5?

Well, I figure I'll just add on to my thread here..
1. My car is starting to spew out white smoke now.. and it has a very nasty smell to it. maybe burned fuel? My O2 sensor is bad, so from what i understand that can increase the amount of fuel the car puts into the engine.. maybe it's putting too much and burning it? Any ideas what the white smoke could be?
2. Is it possible that there's a lot of oil getting into my turbo and burning up when it gets hot?
3. From my previous post. What model turbo does my S70 have? I'd like to see which kit I'd have to get if i was to do a rebuild this spring hopefully..
Thanks in advance!
