1999 Volvo C70. Needs Headgasket. How much would you pay?

I'm thinking about buying a 1999 Volvo C70 Convertible in my area. How much you would pay? They say it has a blown headgasket and maybe more? I am going to check the car out tomorrow and check the condition of the motor. I'll do a compression test and see what the readings are. I wish I could do a leak down test, but maybe if they have the equipment at their house.

They are asking $3500 OBO.

I can do all the work myself. I rebuilt my dad's 1994 Volvo 850 N/A last christmas (new #5 piston needed to be replaced and all the valve stem seals, and home valve job).

I'm thinking if I can get the car for around $1500. It has 80,000 miles on it. It's an automatic and convertible.

It's not often that I post just to say "I agree".

Approach this one with care and if you decide to go for it start low, very low. See what they are prepared to take as you are going in blind as far as other checks are concerned and they could be hiding something.
