I have a 1997 850 N/A. Car had starting problems for over a year. It would fire right up when cold. Sometime wouldn't start at all when hot. About a month ago, engine started stalling while driving. RPM would drop to 0 while coasting. Turning the key off, then back on would restart the engine.
Today, I was coasting at 40MPH, and engine stalled. This time, cycling the key didn't help. I stopped the car, popped the hood to help the engine cooldown. After 25 minutes, it started right up.
I think I'm not getting a spark. Fuel seems to be fine (it sprays gas when pressing the pin)
So far I have replaced: fuel pump & relay, thermostat, coolant temp sensor, crank and cam sensors, rotor and cap, wires. The only thing that hasn't been replaced are the coil, wiring and ECU.
No shop want to take this job. Whenever I make an appointment, the car is running perfect.
Honestly, I'm considering ditching the car.
