2005 S60 stalling while driving

We have a 2005 S60 with the 2.4. It has been stalling when you come to a stop to turn and even once while taking corners on our road. I haven't traced down all the vacuum lines yet, but I did have to repair the long hose from the crankcase ventilation up and under the valve cover. It was broke at the valve cover, so I took a small piece of pipe and made a patch to hold it together. I have the new hose to put on. Could this be causing the engine to run badly and maybe cause the stalling issue?

Hose from PCV system is known to break, Youtube shows how to check the PCV is working properly (not just the hose)

If the PCV is badly clogged, it's urgent repair (and $$) including possibly oil pan removal. Ask which PCV box to buy as several available are crap. It can cause the engine to run rough.

The stalling thing I think might not be related. Does the idle drop while slowing to a stop? I'd start with hand cleaning the throttle valve (no need to spray). Yours not turbo = lucky. Disconnect the large rubber tube about here - small screw

clean the valve at the mounting pin left, right, flip the valve by hand then clean again inside

Next, I'd look into the FPS then MAF sensors.

That will cause a big vacuum leak which will cause poor running. You may have more leaks in that hose under the intake manifold though. You'll see when you replace it. Good chance, 90% , that your stalling woes will end

I have the new hose from the oil trap box to the top of the head, but didn't have time for the repair last night. The hose on the car had two breaks in it, one right at the top of the head and one after the curve where it heads down. I redid my rigged repair last night and it seems that the idle hunting is much better. So, I am thinking that replacing the broken hose will help it tremendously. The new hose is rubber, but the broken hose is hard plastic, so that seems to be a better new part than the original. Could that hose having a major leak as it does cause the P0171 System Too Lean Bank 1 code? I still am getting the P0420 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1...not looking forward to a catalytic converter replacement.

And you won't need one. All that air leaking in is upsetting ypur engine management System, the fuel trim has run out of adjustment range, and the cat is seeing too much oxygen ...all because of a leaking hose....

The OEM hoses on these cars are high quality rubber ...has someone serviced this previously?

On edit...the more I look at the engine picture, the PCV hose doesn't look right. Has it come off the breather box under the intake or been badly mauled?

On the up side, getting it right will fix your problems or I'll eat my automatic transmission..

Hello asummers,

As a couple of other gents here have suggested, I would definitely suggest cleaning the throttle. I've seen countless times on the non turbo cars where the throttle is dirty and is producing a stalling condition.

Also, I would recommend to check all other vacuum lines. If you have access to a smoke machine that always works best in my experience. Just hook the smoke machine up to a vacuum source and smoke away. Any leaks in the system will leak smoke.

Replaced the hose with the new one from FCP, and it hasn't died any and it's idle hunting is gone. Yea! Now about a smoke machine...I have a 1999 S70 that I could use that on.
