1995 940 turbo ruff idle then dies

I just bought my first volvo. It is a 1995 940 turbo rear wheel drive with 90,000 miles. i paid $2000 for it. i have been driving the car for about a month now and in the past 3 days it has had a ruff idle then dies out. sometimes it will start rite up and other times it takes a few tries. i talked 2 a mechanic and he said it could be the fuel pump but he didnt have the proper equipment to check the service codes. i really hope its nothing 2 major because it is a fun car 2 drive. oh im in the US if that matters. thanks

Now that we are in the correct place welcome to the Site.

It is possible that your car has the on board diagnostic box in the engine compartment, depending on when in '95 it was built. If it has you can check for fault codes yourself, or show your mechanic how it is done. The system changed to OBD11 in the 1996 model year.

This link describes the system and how to find if it is fitted to your car. Although headed for the 240 it applies to the 740, 940 and 960.

If the box is not there then you can have the fault codes read free of charge at Autozone and other similar shops.
