You are a great help! I'm going to support MatthewsVolvoSite again in your honor sir. Interestingly, it did go away and rides REALLY nice actually. This was a college car for my kid and I never really drove it that much. Don't know why but I really like it, like this guy :)

1) All that carbon in #1 and good amount in #6 were causing the pre-ignition due to volume reduction and also the carbon glowing and firing the fuel (what used to cause "run on" in older cars with carbs). Perhaps it's burned off, I'll change the plugs soon and send the boroscope down again.

2) The computer was still "learning" after being disconnected for a week perhaps?

Anywho, for now I don't hear it anymore. I'm going to treat it to a tank of higher octane, I'm sure it doesn't have that in there now.

Decided we're going to keep it a while longer and see how it holds up. Replacing the upper torque rode today (seems similar disaster as my XC70 had). Looks like an easy job, may wait a bit and order a new upper engine mount since they are in the same location. The torque rod has been busted for a while I'm sure, I'm going to guess the engine mount isn't much better due to the movement and age.

While checking out the car last week for coolant leaks, I noticed what I'm pretty sure is a tranny cooling line with a small dribble coming out of it. I'll have to consult your list, but I first want to be sure it's not oil from somewhere else moving along the path and dripping off from there. More to come!

I still need to figure out why the PCV diaphragm makes a noise when I REMOVE the dipstick, not the other way around (which would indicate it needs replacement). There is vacuum at the dipstick and the oil cap, FWIW. There is a date on the PCV box with 2017, which would mean a recent replacement. But i doubt this thing should be making noise when you pull the dipstick... everyone would be asking :)

Also, the trunk doesn't open from remote or from inside, add that to the list :)

Mike,

That video is awesome.

Thanks for sharing.

It really captures the S80 and it does a great job of explaining why the S80 becomes so endearing over time.

Take care

Paul
