Turbo leaking.

Post by TheOtherside »

My mechanic says it looks like the "pressure" side of the turbo is leaking. I'm guessing that's the exhaust side?

Does anyone have a turbo for a 98 V70R laying around they want to sell? And maybe some install advice? Lol.

Thanks,
Justin.

Did the mechanic specifically say the Turbo was defective?
Check the Charge pipes and the Intercooler for leaks.

There a crap ton of oil everywhere. He showed me where the intercooler drain plug is and to empty it over night.

Also said there is oil around all the clamps on the pressure side of the turbo also.

What would oil in the intercooler and charge pipes indicate?

Thanks for the reply!!

No oil at all from intercooler screw plug.

Half a spoon full from the lower intercooler hose.

You left out Oil in the original post. Oil changes everything.

Oil in the Intercooler and Charge pipes indicates leaking oil seals in the Turbo.

It might not be so bad you need a new turbo. It might be just a little seal seeping and what you are seeing has accumulated over a long period of time. I would clean up the Oil and keep an eye on it.

Unless there is some other compelling fact you left out.
Do you have high oil consumption?
Blue smoke out the tail pipe?

No blue smoke. Negligible oil consumption. Looks like oil loss is only from leaking.

Wash the charge pipes, perhaps the intercooler, reinstall and keep an eye on it.

One oil leak found. Line in front of the oil filter and the same line just from above.

Any one know what that line is?
