I am at the stage of removing the TB from the engine and have taken off the TB protector plate at the crankshaft. I have not removed the pulley. How the heck do you get the TB off and on?? Theres a goofy looking knob that protrudes from the block to the pulley at the bottom of the crankgear. Do I have to slide the TB sideways to get it up there or ?!?!

The other thing is that I do see the tiny "V" notch in the crank gear tooth while my cam gears are lined up...but I can't see the mark on the block...

Suggestions?!

Thanks in advance!

That is how I do it.

It takes some futzing with it to get it back around the crank.

The timing mark on the block is not so much a mark as it is a bump in the casting itself. Here's a link with a pic that will help.

I just did my TB, waterpump, mechanical tensioner and idler on my 98 S70 yesterday, so it's fresh in my mind. I alway remove the pulley when I do my TB. Not a big deal, just remove the four perimeter bolts and the 30mm center bolt (air tools really help here), use a 2 jaw puller and it'll come right off.

If you don't want to remove the pulley, then cut off the old belt and work the new belt around the protrusion.
