Can I use 01 V70 inner tie rods for a 98 V70 XC?

Post by CIK7 »

Simple question. I have a pair of P2 V70/s60 inner tie rods left from the suspension job I did on my previous 01 V70. Can I use them on my 98 XC?

According to FCP euro's website, no, it will not work.

The 01' volvo v70s inner tie rods are compatible with 01', 02', and 03' V70 and 03' XC70, along with several other years for S60 and S80 models.

How is your XC holding up? Still have a functioning AWD system?

In the Volvo world, some parts may actually be the same, but short of having both to hand and a micrometer, it would be impossible to say. I have had a few parts over the years that I have purchased from either a newer or older model as they were the same when comparing them. Problem is Volvo seems to develop a new number system for each model without being smart and keeping same part numbers if it is already a part they use. Sometimes you find as the cars get older they finally figure that out and that is when you get the roll out of new part numbers for older models. Sometimes they don't but being in a junkyard or experience shows that a different model part is available but not for your car.

In the case of the P80 to P2 chassis steering I would be surprised if they are the same purely as the front suspension is different especially the control arms.

Yes it is still going strong. Unfortunately, I got into a minor accident. A couple people have warned me that the at-fault party's insurance might total my car for the amount of damage. I'm concerned about losing it or having to find a new Volvo.

Should still be able to collect a check for the current market value of the car from the insurance company and re-title the car as "salvaged" should you want to go that route.
