Cheap Struts

Post by MoVolvos »

.
Purchase a set of cheap struts and a 2 year warranty for $2.99. Seller raised it immediately after the transaction. Have seen them as high as $100 but averages around $55 dollars. Will see how long they last. Just reused the OE Ford Strut Mount and Bearing after cleaning and regreasing. Right side done and feels pretty good on the road. Will install driver's side today.

Finished both front strut install. The $60 deposit spring compressor (pictured) worked much better than the $299 deposit tool. Car rides about 3/4" higher. Very smooth and quiet on the road. Was able to use all the other old parts.

I hope I remembered this correctly. The mount and bearing is flat as is the top of the spring so position should not be a concern. The angle is on the spring perch of the strut rather than the mount. Hope this helps.

The knuckle spreader made from the Allen is superior to the socket type from Volvo or others from Amazon or eBay and is a must. We tried all sorts of things and it was very time consuming and waste of energy.

This is probably what the factory recommends meaning removing lower control arm.
