Transmission problem? What do I do? 2002 V70 2.4T
Suppose they spring for the radiator only. Could one ask that they make right all the liquids involved as well, including the transmission fluid? Thats the only way to find out, if the tranny really is KAPUT. I'll bet that there is a 50% chance it is OK. The tranny could no longer convert power to pressure using coolant instead of oil. And maybe nothing burned out. Now back to the 14" of snow that fell yesterday.....

Sony2000. What would be the right tests to find out if the tranny is kaput? I want to ask them what they did and how they got those results. I'm guessing the people at the dealer also read this forum so, guys, you can answer that here.
thanks

Surprise, surprise...very few dealer folks read these forums. After market folks do however. Anyway, what Sony is saying is interesting. I suppose they could change out the radiator, and flush the transmission and fill it with the right amount of correct fluid and see how it goes. However, if it does not go well, you should demand that they change the transmission for a new one under the radiator warranty because obviously that's what caused the failure.

I just got a call from the dealer and I'm shocked. They are going to change radiator AND tranny free of charge. They dealt with factory rep and made that deal. I guess that the factory rep should have asked for what MIJ and Sony said (change radiator, do a flush, test tranny) but I don't really care....
I'll keep you posted. We'll see if there is any surprise coming up.

I just wanted to finish this thread by saying that the factory paid for the new radiator and tranny replacement. Everything seems to be working fine in the car a month after the work being done.
I can't thank you enough for your help
cheers
