Glove box - preventive maitenance

Post by pmpalma »

Gents,

As it seems I'm having all the known issues that a Volvo 850 may have, is there somethign I may due to prevent my latch to brake?

Thanks to all

If it is the "old style" latch about the only thing you can do is to take it apart, break the pin off, and replace it with a machine screw.

Here is a thread:

If you do have the old style it will break, it is only a matter of when and it is much easier to fix it before it breaks rather than afterwords. If you aren't comfortable drilling and tapping I think the replacement latches cost around $40.00.

If it is the new style latch you don't need to do anything.

One of the first things I did when I picked up my son's 850 was to take the glove box apart to check the lock. His already had the "new style" latch that doesn't rely on the pin to actuate the latch release.

Thanks for the link.

For what it's worth, it's an 95 850 Turbo.

How to differentiate between and "old" and "new" latch type?

I tried to find a picture of the new style latch and the only one I have is very fuzzy.

If you latch has the pin, like the one pictured in the link, it is the "old style".

On the new style assembly there is no pin. it just directly releases the latch - the way it should have been done in the first place.
