Glove Box Fix

Post by Mr. Detail »

Heh guys;
I put a little too much pressure today while leaning across to my glove box and broke :cry: the small plastic connecting rod that helps keep the box itself up. (See Photo)
My question is once I obtain the new part how do I get access (my hand) up inside there to re-attach the new part?
Must I disassemble the whole glove box?
If anyone has had to do this, please let me know.
Thx!

Did you try going thru the dash board end cap?
It's the same as the one on the drivers side for fuse panel except passenger side... looks like decent approach.
I hope that helps

My hand is not small and I have no memories left about any difficulties replacing this spring in 02 V70 a few years ago.

i cant see where yours is broken, but if its the same as how mine broke, i used a zip tie/cable tie to stop it coming off the knuckle. yes by hand

Sorry, my photo does not show the inner portion of the cup. I broke off one half of the inner plastic part of that cup that grips the knuckle.
The cup now has no way to grab and hold onto that knuckle. Good idea about the end cap for access. Thanks!

Those tiny tabs always break when you removed them from the metal pin. Try putting a bit of grease on the pin, otherwise this is what I did to make it work forever. Notice in the video the tips about the plastic stops and also how to close back the box and attach the damper. To replace the damper, you need to fully lower the box, to have access at the securing philips screw at the bottom of the damper

plastic zip tie is much easier and quicker, does the same thing. i cut a small groove/channel so it doesnt slip off.

Just curious, is there an OEM Volvo part no. look up on this site or does someone know of one out there?
Going to the dealer just to get the 8 digit part no. is a pain.
