That front seal is the hard to find/ expensive part.

1/4 the cost of a new compressor

Great find 850oldschool

The carry that front seal for $13

Sanden has bought Zexel , the OEM for P80 AC compressors , so those are the parts to source

Last picture a few posts up, The surface of the swash plate has the steel hemi-spheres ride on them and a film of PAG oil, the surface hardening of the swash plate has been worn off and is abrading the base steel.

THe case of the compressor is Aluminum, the swash assembly steel.

Is that the scoring on the plate surface? Had to zoom in.

Thats right. You see the dull gray on the smooth side? There is some sort of hardening (N2 maybe?) that makes that surface smooth for the hemisphere balls to slide - on bout half the swash surface that hardening is worn off and the steel is getting scratched up.

THis compressor worked fine, but started growling when it was working - that was the machining off of the hardening and metal on metal sound.

Could you polish up that surface, put new seals in it, and then pay $100 to recharge and get some life out of it?

Perhaps.

I will hold this one for the next guy who needs some 1999 (maybe earlier too) internal AC compressor parts. Im going to guess the internals on these P80 compressors are the same and just the mount changed on the RN engine.

My thoughts:
Swash plate surface may have had hard chrome plating.(?)
Setup to regrind smooth I think would be hard because of the angle of the swash plate. The grinding would also open the tolerance between the spherical bearings and cause a knock.
When new condition the swash plate would be mirror finish without the concentric groove like a brake disc.
This shows the need for A/C lubricant.

Zexel swash plate assemblies, but no prices:

Shipping from Taiwan might be expensive/slow.

Awesome. I might just rebuild this puppy yet.

Swash plates
Reed valves

It’s all there.
