For your information....(the worst containment)...Kansas (0.158) with 4302 cases....
These growth spikes are related mostly to 4 counties with meat packing plants, four populated counties with national/international airport access, and two counties with state universities.. So, out of ‎105 counties, ten of them are hotspots.

If flu deaths were counted like COVID-19 deaths, the worst recent flu
season evidently killed 15,620 Americans
...
...
Faust, a Harvard Medical School instructor and emergency physician at
Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, wrote in Scientific American
that he started wondering about the flu-to-COVID comparisons when it
occurred to him that in nearly eight years of hospital work, "I had
almost never seen anyone die of the flu." Neither had any of the
colleagues he called around the country. So he did some research, and
this is what he found:

The 25,000 to 69,000 numbers that Trump cited do not represent counted
flu deaths per year; they are estimates that the CDC produces by
multiplying the number of flu death counts reported by various
coefficients produced through complicated algorithms. These
coefficients are based on assumptions of how many cases,
hospitalizations, and deaths they believe went unreported. In the last
six flu seasons, the CDC's reported number of actual confirmed flu
deaths --- that is, counting flu deaths the way we are currently
counting deaths from the coronavirus --- has ranged from 3,448 to
15,620. [Jeremy Faust, Scientific American]

So in an apples-to-apples comparison, matching the second week of
April's COVID-19 deaths to the worst week of the past seven flu
seasons, "the novel coronavirus killed between 9.5 and 44 times more
people than seasonal flu," Faust writes. Read his entire essay at
Scientific American.

Texas reports most deaths in a day from COVID-19 as Gov. Abbott
prepares to drop stay-home order

Texas reported 50 more COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, the most in any
one day since the state reported its first deaths in mid-March.

The state also reported it had added more than 1,000 new cases of
COVID-19 to its total of 28,000 --- the biggest one-day increase in
infections since April 10.
...
...
Abbott earlier this week said he was reopening businesses because the
state's death rate and hospitalizations have been low.

Note - Still lots of BS in Texas....

No such thing as a free lunch: "The tests are free and no appointment is required to come to the drive-thru testing site. A maximum of five people can be tested per vehicle, which must have working A/C and windows that open and fully close."

Unfair...no motorcycles or bicycles allowed...

volvolugnut wrote: 01 May 2020, 08:22 More statistics on US states and COVID-19 growth rates. My raw information is from Worldometer. Any errors or misrepresentations are my own.

These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
State growth rates for May 1, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: Minnesota (0.227) with 5730 cases, Tennessee (0.222) with 11,891 cases, Iowa (0.172) with 7884 cases, New Hampshire (0.150) with 2310 cases, and Wisconsin (0.138) with 7314 cases. States in Bold have reopened to various levels. A growth rate of 0.22 will double the number of cases in less than 4 days.

A new column added on the left today shows the current growth rate divided by the 5 day moving average. No states yesterday over 2.00.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0410 for yesterday, up from previous day of 0.0360. This is not population or case number weighted. The US growth rate average has risen the last 4 days.

We are in a critical time now as some states start to loosen restrictions. Continue to do your part to stay healthy and keep virus spread down.

Stay safe out there. Keep your family close and others at a distance.

Coronavirus gets a promising drug. MAGA world isn't buying it. - On the heels of positive early signs for remdesivir, several prominent Trump boosters are downplaying the results and continuing to promote hydroxychloroquine.

Indeed, the same segment of the right that claimed scientists and the
media were deliberately downplaying hydroxychloroquine in order to
hurt Trump's standing are now the ones downplaying remdesivir.

Note - I've followed these two drugs since their beginnings for Covid-19 usage...anyone who thinks hydroxychloroquine is the one, should do research. FDA has given their blessings for remdesivir only. It is not a sliver bullet, but it can assist those who are without cytokine storm much better.

Speaking of exploiting fear. Went to the car wash to degrease a engine. The owner has replaced the degreaser with disinfectant. As if his soap and water is not good enough. He even has it marked with a biohazard sticker

Im a bit bummed to see the reactions here. I thought the greater part of us volvo nuts actually had it together. Not crazy but crazy for these cars. People its all a bunch of fear mongering. See how far they can push us down. People like Dr. Andrew Kaufman and many others have come out now stating the testing is unreliable do to the fact that their not separating and purifying the supposed virus particle. all they're finding is exosomes in which all of us healthy or sick produce every day of our lives. Stop watching cable and nightly news is the answer.

Locally here recently, the university "stud" went skiing in Colorado, then off to a beach in Florida, and back home without a covid-19 infection. So, several weeks later, he drove some 100 miles to a "Coronavirus party" at his university's town, and "caught" covid-19.

It's true most folks will not be seriously affected, but some 2.8 million or so will die if infected. If you visit D.C.'s poorest ward, "which is 89 percent black," and has "the District's highest per capital rate of coronavirus-related deaths ---six for every 10,000 residents," there ain't no fear mongering here, its for real.
