More statistics on US states and COVID-19 growth rates. My raw information is from Worldometer. Any errors or misrepresentations are my own.

These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
State growth rates for May 16, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: Minnesota (0.180) with 14,969 cases, Oklahoma (0.151) with 5237 cases, North Dakota (0.134) with 1848 cases, Arkansas (0.118) with 4578 cases and Alaska (0.114) with 392 cases. States in Bold have reopened to various levels.

These top 5 states have an average growth rate of 0.1394. At this rate, they will double the number of new cases in 5.5 days.

Worldometer https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... rus-cases/ has started to add state curve information to their website.

A column on the right shows the current growth rate divided by the 5 day moving average. None of the states were over 2.0 yesterday.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0220 for yesterday, down from previous day of 0.0255. This is not population or case number weighted.

Well put my friend and you are so very correct,so many people worry about their civil rights being violated that they do not use common sense or good judgement in the reasoning for wearing the mask in the first place. It's not about them controlling us,it is doing the right thing, when you wear a mask you are saying to other people, i respect you and do not want to potentially make you sick or even worse cause harm to you.My wife is a CMA so I see everyday what medical personal have to go through and the ignorance they have to deal with in those who could care less about their neighbor or fellow man because they are self centered and self righteous. You have to look at the bigger picture not just your personal wants, needs or desires.I hate wearing them, but if it can help keep my self well and show consideration and help my friend or neighbor, I will gladly do it without question or worry my rights are being violated, i'm not doing it to appease the government but to help keep my self and others safe and respecting others.People like me that have no immune system, and would not stand a chance of surviving from this.

The problem is they do use common sense rather then good sense.

There is nothing civil or right about putting others at risk. Nobody has the right to do so, therefore no rights are being violated.

States in Bold have reopened to various levels.

Note the last two states, Alaska and Vermont both have number of cases under 1000. It is encouraging to see more of the top 5 states with few cases.

Worldometer https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... rus-cases/ has started to add state curve information to their website.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0184 for yesterday, down from previous day of 0.0220. This is not population or case number weighted. The US growth rate is the lowest seen since May 11 when it was 0.177.

Trump is supposed to be in the process of making them retract some of their numbers for this...
Footnote: May 17, 2020 Why Belgium has recorded so many coronavirus deaths

Last post here, I just wanted to note Belgium is counting them the way I suggested in a previous post: “Our way of counting things is the most scientifically correct and honest,” Yves Van Laethem, a virologist and Belgian government spokesman, told reporters Friday......By comparison, a team of Yale researchers who analyzed U.S. mortality data in partnership with The Washington Post this month estimated that, with excess deaths as a guide, the true toll could be one and a half times higher than the official number."

So, the US death count should be multiplied by 1.5....so about 90,000 deaths x 1.5 = 135,000 approx deaths today related to covid-19. US is counting proven covid-19 deaths only. "Most countries do not include suspected cases that weren’t positively confirmed."

Somewhere in another post I did say mask are fine. However, I do think fine and prison is not. Personally, I wear one because it is a courtesy to others mental health besides the protection afforded.

States in Bold have reopened to various levels.

For yesterday, 53 states and territories had growth rate less than 0.10 (double new cases in 7 days). Of these, 42 were less than 0.05 ( double new cases in 14 days). Improvements are encouraging.

Worldometer https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... rus-cases/ has started to add state curve information to their website.

A column on the right shows the current growth rate divided by the 5 day moving average. Kansas was over 2.0 yesterday. Also, Veterans Affairs and US Military were both over 2.0.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0208 for yesterday, up from previous day of 0.0184. This is not population or case number weighted.

"The virus does not spread easily in other ways." The CDC adds: “This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about this virus.” The language is a subtle change from the organization’s warning in early March, when it wrote simply that it “may be possible” to spread the virus through contaminated surfaces.
-
The CDC’s lesser emphasis on infected surfaces as part of the spread of COVID-19 is slightly different from that of the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO states online that “COVID-19 spreads primarily from person to person,” but adds that, “it can also spread if you touch contaminated objects and surfaces.”
