Have a 1998 v70 t5. Check engine light came code said wastegate solenoid open or short circuit. I'm new to turbos my question is "can I still drive it until I can get it fixed?" I've read up and watched videos on how to replace the turbo control valve and will be able to do that soon. But will I blow my car up in the meantime? From what I understand this can cause it to boost too much at low rpms and not enough at high rpms. I don't have a boost gauge installed yet but I can feel the lack of power over 2k rpms.

The solenoid fails safe by not sending pressure to hold the wgclosed.

Thank you. Is it a part that can be cleaned possibly with MAS cleaner or another product? I've also read that cleaning the MAS may fix it but I'm assuming this isn't the case because I can feel the lack of boost. I appreciate any and all help like I said I'm new to turbos. My last question,(in this comment at least)is am I correct in adressing the turbo control valve? Or should I be looking at the wastegate actuator? When i look up wastegate solenoid these are the only things that come up. Thank you again
