Unknown wire near left front headlight

Post by liambean »

First post here so sorry if this seems lame. This is my first Volvo, and though I love the car, I'm not used to the tight and logical way things are done in this car. 8)

I found a wire, unattached, under the hood, near the left front headlight. It's a zip-tied to an existing wire bundle. It has three conductors, not two or four (which is odd all by itself), and is literally attached to nothing. Further, unlike other connectors in this car, which are 'spade type," this one appears to be "button" shaped on one and and "socket' shaped on the other.

Can anyone tell me what this is and if it's important?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The plastic hole plugs are a dead giveaway. They are for options you do not have.

It is cheaper to make, stock and handle one wiring harness that will accommodate all the options then it is to make a different harness for all the different possible option configurations.

Just as a general hint. The wiring diagrams are available online, try to obtain one for your model year. A large part of the electrical logic or at least logistics of logic, exposed. Also, there are figures showing components like connectors can also be valuable in a case like yours.
