Could be a warning for your battery.
Maybe it is low on charge after all "exercise" you were performing with diagnostics while key is in pos.II.

Everything is possible with this crap. I made an other clear, had a lambda warning light on for a while. Did an other DTC clear, and took a trip: every warnings away, no other DTC than my kickdown switch that need to be fixed for real (ordered).
No problems of speed signal missing as well. No more DTC about my power seat.

One thing is strange, for now, is the mention 178 US 140 (america) on my 850OBD report. That replace the previous 33 EG 240. I believe it is the result of the B2 code ?
[edit] Now I have an other DTC: M4-4 DTC 1A EFI-231
I'm totally disgusted by this Volvo/junk. And this heap of junk has inherited a new name: "Christine".

Esperado,

1. Very glad to hear you're making good progress on eliminating the DTCs.

2. Concerning the M44 DTC 1A EFI-231, it's advisable to also read the corresponding OBDII DTC, ie, P0171 or P0172, since your debugging approach can differ for the EFI-231 with P0171 case vs. the EFI-231 with P0172 case. Here's what I consider the best interpretation of M44 EFI-231:

------ ECU 7A DTC 1A -> EFI-231 -- Long term fuel trim, part load [P0171 or P0172] [defective MAF, fuel pressure high/low (P0171/P0172), elbow at intake manifold (hidden underneath coolant thermostat) or elbow at PTC or vacuum leaks (if P0172), see OTP Volvo 850 Service Manuals USB drive, see 7-step checkup in section including "2-3-1 (Adaptive HO2S Control Lean At Part Load)" of http://www.volvotips.com/index.php/850- ... codes-obd/ page].

Many mechanical gurus in this forum can help you debug this DTC. I am *not* one of them. The sum total of my knowledge of M44 EFI-231 is condensed into the previous 2 paragraphs.

I can not emphasize enough the utility of the OTP Volvo 850 USB for help in debugging your car. Much of the stuff in that USB drive also applies for your '98 S70 T5.

3. The line in your 850 OBD-II app's Summary beginning with 178 is definitely the one corresponding to the Market Code / Country Code = ECU 51 B901. In your case, you've now reprogrammed ECU 51 B901 = B2 hex, which equals 178 decimal.

Judging from what I've observed in the jonesrh KWPD3B0 interpreter for the B901 parameter, it's pretty obvious that a value of B2 hex = 178 decimal for ECU 51 B901 does *not* correlate with being used by USA cars. The "US 140 (America)" part of your "178 US 140 (America)" line appears to be an error in "850 OBD-II" app. I suggest you inform the app's author, if you want your Summary to reflect reality. Also, be sure to give him the precise link to that B901 section. Considering that over 1000 people have downloaded xiaotec "850 OBD-II" app, I'd guess that he has even more examples than me in which owners have sent him their 850log.txt files, so he can probably quickly verify that B901 = B2 does *not* match USA. I'd also guess that he has made a cut and paste typo error, since I do know that the "850 OBD-II" app reported the following correctly for my '97 850 T5 and my '98 S70 GLT:

164 US 140 (America) -- [app showed that when ECU 51 B901 = A4 hex for my '97 850 T5]
180 US 140 (America) -- [app showed that when ECU 51 B901 = B4 hex for my '98 S70 GLT]

Both those cars speedometer gauges maxed out at 140 mph.

You should also point him to this thread, and the post that documents your speedometer maxs out at 260, and the post that documents your observation that changing ECU 51 B901 from 21 hex to B2 hex changed your speedometer error from ~15% to ~?.?% [it's best to be precise with him about how far that differs from 0%].

4. Here's some AT-143 info, in case the kickdown switch that you ordered doesn't solve that problem...

(according to "850 OBD-II")
AT-143: Kickdown switch circuit, signal too low

(according to kwpd3b0_interpreter.html)
ECU 6E DTC 1C -> AT-143 -- Kickdown circuit malfunction [see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71168&start=10#p485175 for possible sources]

Also see the full MVS viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71168 thread.

5. We all here at MVS hope Christine recovers very soon, and we are praying that the doctor receive wise counsel from the MVS elders and receive divine insight into how to heal her bizarre sicknesses.

Esperado,

I made the request to Aleksi, author of xiaotec "850 OBD-II" app, MVS's xanthefin, so that ECU 51 B901 = B2 displays as "178 EG 260" in the next release. He should soon know about this thread, the picture of your cluster showing the 260, your "SPEEDO is ACCURATE NOW" post, my previous post's item 3 discussion of ECU 51 B901, the jonesrh.info B901 docs, and arguments supporting the proposed change.

Hi Richard. In fact, I'm not pretending anymore to eliminate VOLVO DTCs. It is mission impossible to fight against this computer and I feel like Sisyphus. Since the beginning of my story/nightmare with "Christine", each time I fix something, there is immediately an other problem that appears. it seems to be programmed like the levels in a video game.

This is a (not limited) list of what I was obliged to do in 3 years and 2000 Kms. All the hoses and rubber stuff changed one after the other including AC pipes and dryer, Timing Belt+water pump, Suspension triangles, 4 Break disks, sub frame, engine silent blocks, Engine radiator, Maaf sensor, speed sensor, PCV system, ABS reweld (3 times), turbo, 3 door locks, Sunroof, Gear box solenoid, oil seals, battery, Remote, Gasoline pump, Headlight optics, Boot / tailgate cylinders, Radio bulbs, Instrument cluster and bulbs, Steering wheel ...

As I said, this car has more mileage vertically than horizontally.

Each time you have to change a part, it is a nightmare because Volvo change their references each mornings for an other totally incompatible one.
All that is in leather looks like Vinyl and cracks, all that is glued peels off, all that is in plastic cracks, splits and turn in dust under the finger. Do they make their plastics with scrap car garbage?
Well, to be as positive as possible, the engine is very nice, body solid and painting very good: no durst on my car. But everything around is a miss.

The nearest Volvo dealer is 100Km away, they ask 3 weeks for any appointment, they are incompetent or dishonest (How to know) , and they charge prices that would be worth jail time to anyone else. The only positive thing about them is that they offer coffee while you wait one hours after the fixed time to pick up your car, and that their coffee is good.

This time, as soon this speed meter problem was solved, with your help, i tried to fix the other ones. The power seat was an other false positive. I just moved my seat in all direction, used the 3 memories to record and recall the positions, and ... DTC gone away.
But as soon this was fixed...the lambda icon in my dashboard lighted on ... and ... the problem disappeared with another 'clean DTC' ... to be replaced by this new long term fuel that appears ... and disappears. Like this RPM censor false positive. And nothing, on the mechanical side can explain this new error. Apart O2 sensors ? I'm tired of all those running gags.

So tired by all this junk.

Now i am at the end of my patience and i just say: " Are-you thinking of buying an old Volvo ? Grab the corona virus instead !."
"Are-you thinking to buy a new Volvo ? Think it will be an old Volvo very soon !"
I will join the 850OBDII author with a list of suggestion including yours. Thank for your help, Richard, you are so helpful and you're graciously doing the job that Volvo doesn't even do commercially.

[Edit] Our post crossed. One suggestion for the 850OBDII author should be an option to save or not the datas after each scan or clean, and save-them in a different file each time with the date and time. And to offer the option of a single module scan: When we are on a specific problem, the total scan is waaaaay too long.

Thanks.

Here's my ideas pertaining to Esperado's suggestions to uniquely name 850log.txt by including date/time, and to lessen Scan time when working on a single module:
