I just want to say thanks to jreed, I have the exact same crumbling elbow connector.
I have been looking for info on this mysterious vacuum hose and remember this post by jreed!
Will work on it ASAP, will use standard vacuum hose.

If you're thinking of leaving the small line off, remember that the intake manifold line goes from negative (vacuum) to positive (boost) pressure, the intake hose doesn't. My Volvo software describes it as removing moisture from within the regulator. It may hold sweat due to its location.

I am still having a hell of a time locating this metal line to replace my crumbled vacuum line. Any tips on how to easily find it? I feel like it's behind the wall of PCV lines and that I'd have to get under the car or check behind the wheel panel on the driver's (american) side. Am I way off or am I just looking too far back by the turbo?

Any advice would be so much appreciated. I'm pulling out what's left of my hair trying to find this port.

My car is a '97 850, so it might be different from the '98 S70. On my car, the metal line is located nearly underneath the air intake tube that runs from the air filter housing to the turbo inlet. It is close to the lower radiator hose and the top of the transmission.

The FPR line is broken off in the end of mine. As long as there is enough left to attach to will this be a problem if I just replace the hose?

You should be in good shape if you replace the hose and get a good seal to the remaining piece of metal pipe. That metal pipe runs all the way over to the other end of the engine to the fuel pressure regulator.
