16 year old first car volvo s60 Topic is solved

im currently 16 years old, and I was looking for a personal car to just daily drive. i was looking for cars and came across the s60. i was wondering if a used s60 with 70k+ miles for $18k worth it? i'd also like to know if the s60 has any major problems that I may encounter in the future?

Depends on the condition and how it was maintained. In BC, have the car carefully inspected for rust damage. Volvo cars have a great body rust treatment system. the better EU cars have similar, but the Volvo treatment is near to the best.
A good technician can inspect the car BEFORE you buy and give you a good understanding of the condition of the car.
Also look for warning lights/messages, tire condition, brake condition, suspension, exhaust.
this car will need the timing belt replaced soon, but no later than 100,000 miles. if the belt fails, there will be engine damage.
I have a 2004 S60 with 225,000 miles and it runs and drives great.

Would you happen to know, if insurance is high for a volvo? I also live in BC, so im assuming insurance would be similar to urs, obviously not the same since im a new driver, but it would give me a rough estimate.

PM if you have any problems or questions. Where do you live in BC?
Personally, if I am 16yo now I will get XC70 not older than 2010. Big space on the back for you and your girlfriend and great car for road trips. Fuel economy is OK for daily driver.
To answer your question we have to look at specific car.
The insurance for you is going to be high, no matter what you drive. Visit BCAA and ask them to give you an idea. I believe it will be around $250 if you are not using for work. Perhaps for you going to work more than 15 km will be near $300 monthly.
