Today I drove my S70 to get some groceries and I noticed when taking a left corner, some clunking noise came from the right wheel well. It sounded like a bad cv joint. I've been hassling with this axle for quite some time now. Is there an easy way of determining whether the inner or outer cv joint is busted?

I was contemplating replacing the CV but found the right engine mount collapsing was making my right front wheel clunking noise

Thread here...watch your part numbers as there are a couple of versions

Yesterday replaced the heater core and O rings. Going to take the bolsters off and install new air distribution damper. Getting flashing red lights on climate control module and ECM-222 code. Last week, replaced the power steering bottle and flushed the system, refilled.

I decided to replace my engine coolant temp sensor and found out it can be a pain to remove.
As my father used to say - " Give a lazy man a hard job, and he'll figure out an easy way to do it . " So one cheap sacrificial socket and a couple of minutes with a grinder.... His point was made. :)

Have a buddy who was a foreman. He say lazy people are not worthless. If you want a easier way to do something, put the lazy guy on it. It might take him a week to find the least effort to do what the roll your sleeves up guy can do in two but he will find it. Then you teach the roll your sleeves up guys to do it that way. They will get the task done in one day from then on. Over all increase in productivity in the long run. Gives a whole other meaning to it takes all kinds. :lol:

You can also cut the wires on the sensor and then use a deep socket on the sensor; replace it with an open end to proper torque

In the case of removal, that would be the preferred option. If for some reason you can't get a wrench in there to tighten the new one down, the ground down socket should make easy work of it.

Personally I would have tried taking apart the plastic connector before cutting the wires, particularly with the new one. But that also didn't seem to be the right approach. Additionally there was no way to get an open end wrench in there, at least in my case. And hey, if it was a race, I'd be drinking my second beer while someone else was crimping and heat shrinking wires back together. :)

What size is the socket, might it be the same as an O2 sensor? That would make it too easy though.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
