So, car died and I thought it was the alternator that failed. It turns out that on a 3.2, the coupler bolt that secures the drive sprocket to the engine has come loose. Save me 500 for a new alternator. Loctited the bolt and put the original alternator back.

It was a lot of work getting the intake out so I wanted to see if there was anything else I should address before putting it back together. I see a lot of oil leaking and was wonder where it may be originating from.

Could it be the brake booster vacuum pump? Mine started leaking around 120k miles and the oil dripped down around the serpentine belt area forward and rear, and eventually down to the bottom of the transmission and onto the mud shield.

There are rebuild kits available for the vacuum pump. I did mine about a year ago and it was a relatively easy job.

That does look exactly like a vacuum pump o-ring leak.

Overdrive pulley for the alternator

Note: when the overdrive (or clutched pulley if you prefer) fails the bolt on the drive pulley becomes loose

The pulley is like a freewheel on a bicycle, it only engages in one direction

You will need a tool to replace the pulley

Good Luck

Paul

PS the Serpentine belt also has a clutched pulley, you should be able to move the belt easily in one direction
