I just picked up a used 20 ton shop press yesterday, so I'm already looking for things to press :)

That is WAAAAAAYY overkill for this, and not even worth the hassle of trying to figure out how to make it work. ;)

A shop press is a good excuse to gather up more sockets of various sizes to use as the die to press on parts to be removed.

I tried to use my 20 ton press for the subframe bushings... it was more work to try to have my cousin hold the subframe with me while I tried to operate the press :lol:

But I love my press... half the things I use it for don't even need that kind of force, but it's just fun to use. Sketchy as hell at times, but effective.

It is an old American made beast that I only paid $ 125 for. I have a bad habit of buying tools that I might or might not need, if they seem like they could be useful. I'm thinking that the press might be easier than C- clamps for u-joints and for replacing axle bearings and leaf spring bushings on my old full size Jeep pick-up. And it could always be used for cracking walnuts, applying postage stamps etc...

Nice score! Mine's a Harbor Freight special, but it gets the job done.

I'll have to try applying a stamp with it...

You can also get creative and do metal embossing by making a male die and a rubber pad to press the die against. 20 tons should work for patterns a couple inches across. I saw a car magazine article where they made a jeep logo this way.

Keep cleaning it off and keep it lubed it with 3 in 1 oil.

3. Press the bushing out with Press & Pull Sleeve Kit.
The hole is 70mm use a 60/70 and a 70/80 Sleeve.

4. Lube it up good with light oil, both the hole and the bushing.

5. Beat the new bushing into the frame with a rubber mallet.

If you don't have a Press & Pull Sleeve Kit. Find something 70mm in dia. ( 2¾ in). You could probably use it to tap the bushing out. After you get oil down between the old bushing and the frame.
