Update.
I have the head bolts out. Had to get out the good ol breaker bar with a little .5in extension. There's something catching on the backside though. So close but running out of daylight today. What all along the back comes off. There was a 13mm bolt on the far back right behind the heat shield and I have the water pipe off.
Pcv, breather box help

You’ve got a m8 bolt or two in the plastic timing cover that everyone forgets, look carefully at th e front of the engine.

Almost have the exhaust manifold off. There's a bolt nubbin at the far left sticking out. Every other bolt has a nut attached like this one in the picture but there's one on the left end where the nut just twists off and leaves the threads holding the manifold on. I need to swing it off and I believe I'm done with taking it apart.

Ty...get that turbo and all open spaces covered up with rags, paper, plastic bags. These holes are nut and bolt magnets for dropped things, and findingadropped bolt in an engine can waste hours of life
I think the head gasket material has just migrated into the jacket if that blockage is thin stuff. If it’s gorp, then someone used head gasket in a can compound ; one of the deadly sins

Ty, What are the marks, spots, carbon?? circled in red here?
Plan to get metric thread taps to run through all the threaded holes before reassembly. This makes sure they are clean and get proper torque.

I had some more time today. I swapped my old power steering and coolant reservoirs, the power steering was leaking. I got the new water pump and gasket on and the thermostat pulley on. I just need to get the idler pulley on but I forget which 2 bolts go to it. Then on to the serpentine and timing belt. I've also taken a little time to clean off the head. Looks a lot better. Also played around with some plasti dip. I didnt think it was white, the cap wasn't white
I wanted blue. I will redo sometime

Nice.
Ty, all the exhaust fittings are nuts in threads. Replace all those exhaust studs with new ones , excel for the last one , rightmost at cylinder one...you replace that one after you do the water pipe gasket and two M6 bolts
